Policy Research Analyst Internship

Harvard Policy and Institutional Research Program - HPIRP
Founded by Richard Freeman, Ascherman Professor in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, the HPIRP has the mission of understanding country development paths and improving policy and institution design. We achieve this through building international network, collecting data and documenting policy changes. Research Analysts who have already participated in the program at Harvard University contribute remotely by creating local research groups. We are counting on contributors from all over the world, including countries like Tanzania, Australia, China, India and Brazil. We are currently recruiting qualified students for the newly emerging Swiss research team.

Tasks
If selected, the policy research analyst intern will contribute to the Harvard Policy and Institutional Research Program during a four-month period (June 17 – October 2017). The tasks will involve promoting a research report of a policy or institutional reform in the context of a pre-defined “development field”, such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, and others. Therefore, the tasks will involve:
- Investigate national-wide or region-wide policies;
- Collect, analyse, and interpret quantitative data pertaining to the chosen policy;
- Review academic and professional literature, evaluating the reforms from multiple perspectives;
- Participate in weekly gatherings with the Country Executive and fellow researchers in order to report about the research progress;
- Compose the Policy Research Report and other research-related materials.

Local contributors will receive a certificate after the completion of the Research Report within the time frame. Those with outstanding performance, besides receiving the certificate, can apply to join the onsite batch during two months at Harvard University and continue to contribute to the program.

Requirements
In order to qualify to join the local research groups, applicants must meet the following requirements:

- You have a demonstrated keen interest in the fields of Public Policy and Economic Development;
- You are fluent in both oral and written English;
- You are committed, allocating appropriate amount of time and resources for completing your assigned work;
- You are comfortable in working independently.
